Equality and diversity

Torridge District Council are committed to removing inequality and promoting fairness at all stages of the employee lifecycle, from recruitment and induction through to training and development.

At Torridge District Council our recruitment process is designed to ensure equality of opportunity and fairness at every stage while encouraging diversity and inclusion.

This ensures that we adhere to our legal obligations under the Equality Act and prevents discrimination at each stage. Our recruitment process allows us to find the best person for the job based on merit and free from bias.

Job Applications are processed via our online system and any personal data that could identify you is removed when shortlisting in order to allow shortlisting to be free from any bias.

Our application forms include a request for diversity information in order to allow for Equality and Diversity monitoring – although this information is completely confidential and is separate to the recruitment process.

Our application forms are available in an accessible format and can be submitted as a paper version rather than online if required. When invited for interview you will be asked if you require any reasonable adjustments throughout the process and we will do our best to meet these requests.

If appointed, you will be asked to complete a confidential occupational health assessment which goes directly to our provider, who will review the information, meet with you if necessary, and provide us with advice on any reasonable adjustments we can make to assist you in your employment with us.

We are a disability confident employer, and we are signed up to the Disability Confident Scheme, a movement of change which encourages us as an employer to think differently about disability and take action to improve how we recruit, retain and develop our employees.

Employees and Managers receive Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Training via e-learning and in person sessions, to further learn how to be more inclusive in their own roles and teams.

We have committed to honour the Armed Forces Covenant and support the Armed Forces Community. We recognise the value Serving Personnel, both Regular and Reservist, Veterans and military families contribute to our business and our country.
