About us

We are Torridge District Council (TDC), the local authority that represents the 68,000+ residents of Torridge. We provide a wide range of services to our residents and visitors. From granting planning permission and inspecting food premises, to the provision of car parking services and maintaining one of our greatest assets, our Northam Burrows Country Park. We are focused on making our area a better place to live, work and visit - the community really are at the heart of everything we do.

Our Officers work with a range of local partners, constantly looking at ways to develop the local economy and help fund vital projects in both our towns and rural locations. In the past this has included the refurbishments of clubs, equipment for sports teams and even an engine for a boat! Our Officers have been directly involved in regenerating our towns and villages, as well as working with local working groups to assist in their smaller projects.

Our current projects include creating a Centralised Operational Services centre for our waste & recycling crews, working on a new Joint Local Plan with our neighbouring authority and developing a Maritime Innovation Centre, following a successful bid for £15.6m of funding from the Levelling Up Fund issued by the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities.  The development will establish Torridge and wider northern Devon as a global-leading research and development destination for innovation in clean maritime technology and support industries and is expected to open in 2025.

Behind all of this we also have an experienced team of professionals working in ‘back office functions’ such as Finance, HR and Legal, providing advice and support to all of our employees and stakeholders.

We wouldn’t be able to do any of this without our team of 230+ employees, and we’re always looking for innovative individuals to join us. Take a look at our current vacancies.
